Abstract:

There are many compelling reasons for us to want to learn more about Earth’s "evil twin," Venus. However, this planetary body present formidable challenges to accomplishing the kinds of missions that we have achieved on Mars. This short course aims to cover science questions that are challenging to answer with current mission architectures, as well as the technologies that are currently in the mission architect’s toolbox to enable in situ sample capture on Venus.

Program:

Lecture 1: Dr. Noam Izenberg (JHU/APL) - “Unobtainable” Venus Science

Lecture 2: Dr. Jim Cutts (JPL) - Venus Aerial Platforms

Lecture 3: Dr. Gary Hunter (NASA Glenn) - High-Temperature Technologies

Lecture 4: Dr. Kathryn Bywaters (Honeybee Robotics) - Sample Capture
